LIMITED GRANTS AVAILABLE TOMORROW
BUSINESS COALITIONS APPEAL TO GOVERNOR
REPAIR SHOPS: TIME TO GET CREATIVE
NJGACA CORONAVIRUS WEBINAR
ANY STATIONS CLOSING?

LIMITED GRANTS TOMORROW
The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA) gave some details on the first of the state level programs they are rolling out to help businesses. The first program to roll out will be a grant program, providing up to $5,000 to businesses with ten or fewer full time equivalent (FTE) employees. This offering is extremely limited, less than 5,000 businesses will be able to get this grant in the initial offering. BE SURE YOU ARE AT YOUR COMPUTER AT 8:55 AM REFRESHING THE PAGE TO APPLY! You can read more information about what you need to have with you to fill out the application HERE

WEBINAR
It is very important that you sign up for our webinar scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, April 3rd at 12 PM. Three of our MBP's, Steven Horowitz, Alicyn Craig, and Mauro Tucci will be presenting on Families First paid leave, state of New Jersey required leave, and the various federal and state grant and loan programs that have been announced so far. You can register HERE.

GOVERNOR APPEALS
Over the past few weeks, NJGCA has been working closely with other business organizations and coalitions appealing to politicians to protect small businesses in the rebuilding and relief efforts as a result of the Coronavirus. While we have been sending our own appeals to the governor and legislature, we also recently signed on to a coalition letter, which outlined policy recommendations for future business relief packages. You can view that letter HERE

REPAIR SHOPS
For those of you with repair shops, now is the time to start getting creative and thinking about promotions or specials you might be able to offer your customers. I mentioned previously about some repair shops offering "stay in your car" services. Motorists may not necessarily be thinking about their next oil change, but sending them a promotion and a reminder this can be done in their vehicle might inspire them to take care of it before the stay at home order is lifted and everyone is out doing the errands they missed during the pandemic.

CLOSING STATIONS
Finally, if you know of any gasoline retail locations that have ALREADY CLOSED due to the current Coronavirus crisis, please identify those locations to us here at NJGCA. If you are aware of any through conversation, or you have been on the road and suddenly noticed a competitor (nearby or further away), please note the address and send the location to us. A picture of the closed location is worth a thousand extra words if you can manage a photo.

If you are closing or about to close for lack of employees please notify us even if you have already sent an email. We want to demonstrate to Governor Murphy that this crisis is growing for NJGCA members and that you are staring down a situation where you might not have any employees to work at all. Send your emails to michelle@njgca.org

Be Well -

Banks Warn Of Chaotic Launch Of Small Business Lending Program
Banks are warning that a $350 billion lending program for struggling small businesses won't be ready when it launches Friday because the Trump administration has failed to provide them with the necessary guidelines and set requirements for the loans that are unworkable. The lenders complain that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin boxed them in with an unrealistic deadline and that the ground rules they've been given for the program, which is intended to deliver rapid aid to a huge number of ailing businesses, could delay the assistance for weeks or longer. The banks, which will be responsible for processing loan applications and doling out money, are expecting millions of applications from businesses. Some fear a disaster that could dwarf the failed kickoff of the Obamacare enrollment web site in 2013.

Just Crack Your Window, Wawa Tells Customers Getting Gas Amid Coronavirus Fears
In another effort to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, Wawa is asking customers to limit how far they lower their windows when fueling up at its stores. New signs are being placed at all Wawa gas pumps in New Jersey asking that customers lower their passenger-side window - not the driver's window - by three inches to communicate with fuel attendants. . . Attendants will also wear gloves and continue sanitizing all kiosks and fuel pumps on a frequent basis, officials added.

State Budget To Be Pushed To September
New Jersey has decided to extend the current state budget until September 30, the New Jersey Globe has learned. The four-month delay means Gov. Phil Murphy and the legislature can avoid postponing budget negotiations as the state deals with the deadly coronavirus pandemic. Sources speaking on the condition of anonymity say that an agreement between Murphy, Senate President Steve Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin is in place. The two legislative leaders have briefed their budget chairs, Paul Sarlo and Eliana Pintor Marin, sources say. The current state budget is due to expire at midnight on July 1. The governor's office and the Office of Legislative Services are working on legal language to justify the extension.  The state requires a new budget every July 1.

Gas Prices Drop, But Nobody's Driving
On Sunday, regular gasoline was just $1.31 a gallon at the North Texas convenience stores owned by Bill Douglass of Sherman, Texas. Yet sales were down roughly 50% in some outlets, reports the Wall Street Journal. . . Low prices at the pump usually encourage drivers to log more miles, but with the spread of COVID-19, millions are sheltering in place and leaving their autos idle. In the U.S., gasoline has been worth less than crude recently, even with oil fetching around $22 a barrel, which increases the chance that refineries will close in coming weeks to balance supply and demand.

Oregon Temporarily Lifts Prohibition On Self-service Gas In Response To Coronavirus
Oregon will allow drivers to pump their own gas until at least April 11 in order to reduce contact that could spread the coronavirus and ensure that essential frontline workers have access to fuel during potential staffing shortages, the state fire marshal announced early Saturday morning. "During this unprecedented time of state emergency, we need to ensure that critical supply lines for fuels and other basic services remain uninterrupted," State Fire Marshal Jim Walker said in a press release.
