Your IRS Form 990 is due on November 15th! Use file990.org to complete your filing for FREE!
A tax exempt association (every PTA in New Jersey) that does not annually file a form 990 return may: pay penalties for failure to timely file and automatically lose it's tax-exempt status if it does not file a return for 3 consecutive years.
The benefits of staying in compliance are that you can accept tax-deductible contributions, you do not have to pay state or federal income taxes and you may be eligible to avoid state sales and use tax.
New Jersey PTA has contracted with File 990 to provide a free, fast, easy, and safe way to e-file your 990-N form or 990 EZ form. New Jersey PTA is covering the cost of this new software for all New Jersey PTA units.
With this new program, units can complete and submit their form directly to the IRS in minutes and receive IRS acceptance notification within 24 hours of filing. File 990 can also assist you in the reinstatement process if needed.

Per the Generic Local PTA Bylaws, effective 7/1/21, all local PTAs must elect their Nominating Committee at a General Membership meeting by 12/31/21.
Article VIII: Nominating Committee - Election and Duties Section 1: A Nominating Committee must be elected at a General Membership meeting by the end of December. At least three members (must be an odd number) and one alternate shall be elected to the Nominating Committee. Any current member, excluding the current PTA President, is eligible to serve on the Nominating Committee. The Committee shall elect its Chair.
The Nominating Committee is charged with evaluating all possible nominees and choosing one qualified nominee for each officer position. The detailed duties of the Nominating Committee will be presented via Zoom training sessions in January and February of 2022. Stay tuned for these dates and times!

National PTA is providing 40 local PTAs with $1,000 in grant funding, sponsored by Bayer, to provide opportunities for families to participate in shared, hands-on science activities and be inspired to pursue careers in STEM. This grant is only open to PTAs that are located within a 55-mile radius of Whippany, New Jersey. Local PTAs must be willing to run a hands-on science festival program (in person and virtual program options available) using the National PTA STEM + Families Science Festival resources and ensure both students and families actively participate in the activities, to enhance positive family engagement.
Grants open on Wednesday, November 10th, and the grant application deadline is Friday, December 10th, 2021. As the New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) distributes the latest round of Pandemic EBT to K-12 students, we need to let parents know these benefits are coming their way and to check that their school has submitted correct info to the state.
Hunger Free New Jersey created a flyer in English and Spanishand a social media graphic in English and Spanish to help people spread the word. We encourage all of our partners to widely share these messages!
