Attend a Public Meeting!

The NYS Education Department (SED) released the first draft of a plan under the new federal law Every Student Succeeds Act. See a summary HERE.

Public meetings are occuring around the state and YOUR participation is  important. See HERE for dates and locations.

Why should YOU attend one of these meetings? Because the new law directly affects your child in the classroom and you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts directly with SED.

Upcoming dates:
May 20 - Manhattan
May 24 - Syracuse
May 30 - Rochester
June 1 - Plattsburgh
June 5 - Yonkers

Read and Comment on the Revised Standards!

SED has also released revised English Language Arts and Math Standards. Please read the standards related to your child's grade level HERE.

You can submit YOUR comments on these standards HERE by June 2.

Email your Congress member and ask him/her to keep public dollars with the 90% of public school children, follow #EdFunding for updates and add this hashtag to social media posts.

Last week, we presented our draft Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan to the Board of Regents. The draft plan emphasizes fostering equity in education for New York's students; expands measures for school support and accountability, and student success; and requires school-level improvement plans for the lowest performing schools overall as well as schools with the lowest performance for certain student populations.
