NYS PTAlert is Now the NYS PTA Connection

The NYS PTA member email, NYS PTAlert, is now the NYS PTA Connection!

This rebranded name shows our commitment to you: to connect you with timely and useful information you need to support not just your child, but ALL children.

Students Are Our Motivators That Grow to be Our Future Leaders

The NYS PTA "Students Rock" award contest is gaining momentum with strong student member support. Just because you are a PTA and not a PTSA does not mean that students cannot be involved.

Consider the student benefits of becoming a PTA member, especially at the middle and high school levels. What an exciting opportunity for students who were not able to be part of student council or for college bound students to proudly include their PTA membership on entry applications.

When students become hands on with PTA, the learning opportunities are endless and the impact is vital.

Units must have 30% of their current total registered and paid for memberships as students. Those units that achieve this badge will go into a drawing to win one of five $500 scholarships. These scholarships can be used in so many ways: Arts in Education, PARP awards or Character Ed programs to name a few, or the $500 can be broken up to create several small student scholarships.

Invest in our future - student memberships matter!

  Convention 2017 Wrap-up

This year, Niagara Falls played host to the 2017 NYS PTA Convention, rolling out the red carpet for over 350 delegates, guests and exhibitors. It was an exciting, advocacy-filled Convention with informative workshops, general presentations, inspiring keynotes, and amazing student performers!

We were honored to have Superior Court Judge Verda Colvin from Georgia address why parental engagement, especially for boys, is critical. Amy Hysick, New York's 2017 Teacher of the Year, shared her inspirational story of helping students achieve.

New this Convention! NYS PTA launched a Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Caucus, and a LGBTQ Caucus/Breakfast. Both events were well-attended and inspiring!  Plus the Board of Directors unanimoulsy adopted a new position paper, Affirming LGBTQ Youth and Families.

Your participation at Convention is essential to the success of our association. You elect officers, shape policy and move the association forward. You address the needs of our members and, most importantly, the needs of our children.

NYS PTA is Leading the Way to our 122nd Convention in Saratoga Springs, November 9-11, 2018. Mark your calendars!

Letter from NYS Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia

Dear Parents,

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending and speaking at the NYS PTA Annual Convention. Regent Collins also attended the Convention and participated in the Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Caucus.

As Commissioner of Education, I strive to stay connected to those closest to our students: their parents and families. I admire and appreciate the work you do to ensure a high-quality education for all our students.
