  News from National PTA Convention

At the National PTA Convention in Columbus, Ohio, NYS PTA was proudly represented with 25 New York delegates in attendance. These attendees participated in leadership bootcamps, voted for resolutions and bylaws, and presented workshops.

Even more exciting news, our own past NYS PTA President Bonnie Russell was elected to the National PTA Nominating and Leadership Recruitment Committee! Bonnie will now visit other states on behalf of National PTA seeking candidates for the National PTA Board and committees. We wish Bonnie our congratulations and luck in this new position!

As a reminder, the NYS PTA Board of Directors voted in February to oppose any and all dues increases that were proposed at this National Convention. We are very pleased to share that, after much debate, there will be NO dues increase this coming PTA year. All dues increases that were put before the delegates failed.

Our delegation's attendance at National PTA Convention reminded us all of the importance of YOUR attendance at our Convention! It's truly where your voice can be heard, so save the dates - November 8-10 in Tarrytown, NY!

Your Thoughts on Career and Technical Education in NY

The NYS Education Department's Office of Career and Technical Education (CTE), is conducting a survey to support improvement initiatives made possible by the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V). Perkins provides over $24 million to New York's secondary-level CTE. Career and Technical Education, offered at the middle and high school levels state-wide, consists of agricultural education, business education, family and consumer sciences education, health sciences education, technology education, and trade and technical education.

These surveys are gathering information from a range of perspectives to inform the development of a four-year plan to improve the quality and availability of CTE. Your input is important, so we hope you will take a few moments to complete the survey. Your participation will help create quality CTE opportunities for all students in New York.
