$1 Billion left in PA CARES Act funding - use it to save the arts

October 26, 2020

In May of this year, Pennsylvania received $3.9 billion under the federal CARES Act.  Of that $3.9 billion, Pennsylvania has $1 billion remaining.  Citizens for the Arts in Pennsylvania is asking you to reach out to your members of the PA General Assembly and ask them to support the arts sector in Pennsylvania by:

  • Providing $20 million for grants to the arts through the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts

  • Providing $200 million for grants to performing arts venues through the Save Our Stages Grant program (HB 2894).

Those organizations that previously applied for and received grants through the 2020 Cultural and Museum Preservation grant program would not be eligible to apply.

Please take a few minutes to compose a handwritten note, make a brief telephone call, or send an email asking your legislators to include this funding in the remaining $1 billion of the CARES Act.   After you write your letter, ask your board members, friends, and family to do the same.  Whenever possible, please make your communication personal, including examples of how state funding has impacted your community and your legislative and senatorial districts' constituents.  Please take action today.

Sample emails and talking points can be found on the Citizens for the Arts in Pennsylvania website at www.citizensfortheartsinpa.org/takeaction.
