Under current law, producers must complete at least 15 continuing-education credits every two years—but any excess learning is discarded at renewal time. That means there is no credit given for those who go above and beyond.
S.6122/A.6652-A would allow insurance producers to carry over up to seven hours of CE credit to their next license renewal cycle. This simple fix aligns New York with other professions that allow for CE carryover, as well as other states, which reward their insurance producers by encouraging lifelong learning, and reducing regulatory inefficiencies.
