Media: New poverty data confirms it - expand the CTC!
In September, the U.S. Census released its annual poverty data for 2023. The news was not great. According to the more accurate Supplement Poverty Measure (SPM), child poverty rose by 1.3 percent to 13.7 percent overall.

The SPM data also showed that the Child Tax Credit (CTC) lifted 2.4 million people above the poverty line last year. This is encouraging news, but it is still less than half the people helped when the expanded CTC was in effect in 2021.

The message is clear - Congress must do more about addressing poverty in the U.S. They should start by expanding the CTC. Submit a letter to the editor urging lawmakers and candidates to commit to expanding the CTC as soon as possible.
