Living with an “invisible” or chronic condition can feel isolating, but friends, family members, and your immediate community can better support you when they understand what you are experiencing. Moreover, raising awareness empowers the entire spondylitis community!
You can raise awareness by sharing what you know about Spondyloarthritis (SpA) with family, friends, and your community on social media and through other communication channels.
Educate and empower yourself, and help provide access to information, resources, and treatment for those affected.
Advocate for changes in public policy and funding to support research to find a cure.
Get involved by participating in an upcoming local event, starting your own fundraiser, sharing your spondyloarthritis story, joining a support group, or becoming an advocate for the spondylitis community.

3. Global SpA Summit
SAA is proud to hold our annual Global Spondyloarthritis Summit each year in May!
This year, the Summit airs May 2nd and 3rd.
Register and join us online for the Summit.
All videos are free to watch for the entire month of May.
This free online event brings together some of the most respected medical professionals, including renowned rheumatologists, and many others to discuss the latest treatment options and research in spondyloarthritis.
4. Walk Your AS Off
Most people with spondylitis have improved outcomes by staying active. Join in the fun and count your steps with the global Walk Your AS Off. Every step counts! Enter your steps after walking or exercising in your neighborhood while wearing spondylitis-awareness gear, or even when doing chores at home.
5. Wear Your Awareness
Check out the SAA online store for fun awareness items this month (wristbands, t-shirts, hats). Wear an SAA cap on your daily walks or take an Ankylosaurus mug to work to start a conversation with your neighbors or co-workers and spread awareness.
6. Ask your Elected Officials to Proclaim May as Spondyloarthritis Awareness Month
For people to understand and fund spondylitis research, they must first know about spondylitis. Although May is Spondyloarthritis Month, it is not yet officially recognized as such by most cities, states, and Congress. You can ask your state and city to recognize Spondyloarthritis Awareness Month (every year in May) by applying for a state proclamation.
7. World AS Day
The next World AS Day is Saturday, May 3, 2025, so help us make that day especially active. #WorldASday2025
