Self-Advocacy: Medical & Prescription Assistance
Action Alert
Managing the costs associated with spondyloarthritis can be stressful, and for many, a financial burden.

But you may qualify for programs that will help you get your prescriptions at a very low cost or even for free.

If you're struggling to afford your prescription, a good first step is to discuss the issue with your healthcare provider.

They may be able to prescribe a lower-cost or generic alternative or connect you with assistance programs to help cover the costs.

Patient assistance programs (PAPs) are a valuable resource for individuals without health insurance or those who are underinsured, providing much-needed support in affording medication.

Pharmaceutical companies, nonprofits, and government agencies oversee the management of these programs.

You are likely to qualify for these programs if:

  • You don’t have health coverage.
  • You don’t have enough coverage for your prescription.
  • Your insurance doesn’t cover the medications prescribed.

(You may also be required to meet certain financial requirements.)

You can also enroll in federal and state programs to afford your medication.

SAA has a list of assistance programs that can help with the cost of medications, co-pays, and other healthcare needs.
