Support student financial aid

Advocate for higher education at a crucial moment. Congress is advancing legislation that would pose serious risk to higher education, by cutting access to student loans and services for vulnerable communities. The current legislation would:

  • Eliminate Grad PLUS loans for new students and restrict Parent PLUS loans.
  • Decrease eligibility for Pell grant undergraduates.
  • Make student loan repayment more expensive.
  • Reduce federal student aid, including Pell grants.
  • Create a risk-sharing system that would require institutions to make annual payments to the federal government for student borrowing
  • Reduce eligibility for Medicaid, SNAP, the Affordable Care Act, and other community health-related programs
  • Decrease eligibility for the Child Tax Credit
  • Expand the endowment tax, harming colleges’ ability to use endowments for student aid and life saving research.
