USCCB Action Alerts For Immigration Reform

Congress currently has the opportunity to pass positive immigration reform laws via the budget reconciliation process. Click on these action alerts for Senator Patty Murray and Senator Maria Cantwell and your Representative to urge them to pass legislation that would provide legal status with a path to citizenship for Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status (TPS)/Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) holders, migrant agricultural workers, and other undocumented essential workers.  Learn more about the need for positive immigration reform and actions you can take here.

USCCB Welcomes Increase in SNAP Benefits

In August the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released a reevaluation of the Thrifty Food Plan, which is used to calculate benefits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).  Consequently, the average SNAP benefit will increase in Fiscal Year 2022 beginning on October 1.  The USCCB welcomed these new changes in a statement, noting, "Support for SNAP and other vital nutrition programs is one way we can collectively respond to the Lord's command to feed the hungry.  As a Church, we will continue to advocate for policies like SNAP that help people meet their essential human needs."

  Season of Creation

September 1 marked the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation and was the first day of the Season of Creation, which runs through the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi on October 4.  See USCCB's resources on the Season of Creation here. The Vatican's Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development encourages Catholics to participate in the Season of Creation in this letter

Leave a Farewell Message for Bishop Mueggenborg

Congratulations to WSCC's Bishop Daniel H. Mueggenborg, who has been appointed Bishop of Reno by Pope Francis.  Click here to leave him a farewell message.  The WSCC Board and staff wish to thank Bishop Mueggenborg for his advocacy as an executive board member of the WSCC.  Instrumental in directing state advocacy efforts, Bishop Mueggenborg was active in advancing state legislative priorities.  Just this past year he testified before the state legislature against assisted suicide, led COVID-19 response efforts in the archdiocese, worked with the Governor's office to advance church reopenings and improve procedures, and created an outreach video to educate Catholics opposing the new Comprehensive Sexual Health Education (CSHE) laws.  We wish you well, Bishop Mueggenborg! Read the Archdiocese of Seattle's press release here.

Survey: Share Your Advocacy Priorities with The Bishops

The Washington State Catholic Conference is the public policy voice of the bishops of Washington state, and the WSCC bishops would like to hear what your top Catholic advocacy priorities are.  Participate in this brief survey to let the bishops know which policy priorities you are interested in advocating for.  The survey takes only about two minutes to complete. Thank you for making your voice heard and for participating in the survey.
