The 2024 session presents an opportunity for lawmakers to invest in Kentucky’s kids and working families. With an investment in high-quality child care, the General Assembly can support early childhood education and help more families participate in the workforce. Supporting education and working families benefits ALL KENTUCKIANS.
A broad coalition of business and early childhood groups are advocating for the common-sense priorities below:
1. Maintain recent changes to Kentucky’s pro-work Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), which helps low-income working families afford child care
2. Ensure child care teachers automatically qualify for CCAP and support early childhood teacher scholarships to help grow the child care workforce
3. Provide start-up funding for new child care services, especially in rural areas, in child care deserts, and at workplaces
4. Engage with local stakeholders to address zoning barriers to new child care services and increase more child care slots
5. Strengthen and continue the Employee Child Care Assistance Partnership, which supports employers in helping employees afford quality child care.
