    Bill Summary

Under this bill, no later than August 1 of each year, the department of education and LEAs must post on their web sites information about state mandated tests that will be administered during the next school year. The information must include the name of the test, the purpose and use of the test, the grade or class in which the test is to be administered, the tentative date or dates on which the test will be administered and how and when parents and students will be informed of the results of the tests.

This bill also requires LEAs to disseminate the above information to parents by placing the information in each school's student handbook, or other standard or policy guidebook that contains the policies and procedures of the school and is distributed annually. In addition to posting the information on the LEA web site and placing it in the handbook, an LEA is encouraged to disseminate annually the information to parents by other methods that the LEA finds reasonable and feasible, such as, posting on a school's web site the information for tests that will be administered to students attending the school, discussion of state and LEA mandated tests at parent/teacher organization meetings or sending the information home with students.

ON APRIL 3, 2014, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 2404, AS AMENDED.

AMENDMENT #1 changes the date by which the department and LEAs must post the testing information on their web sites, as required by this bill, from August 1, to July 15 for the department and July 31 for LEAs. This amendment makes this' bills requirement for including the testing information in student handbooks applicable to the 2015-2016 school year and all school years thereafter.
