On May 1, the Department of Education (ED) released its final rule severely limiting the federal loan assistance available to post-baccalaureate nursing students and other professions. Representatives Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR-01), Lauren Underwood (D-IL-14), and John Mannion (D-NY-22), along with Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD), have introduced a Congressional Review Act (CRA) Joint Resolution (H.J.Res.189/S.J.Res.196) in response to the Department’s arbitrary exclusion of nursing, and others, from the professional degree category. This measure would invalidate ED’s final rule and is separate from the recently introduced Nursing is a Professional Degree Act.
