Take action now to let members of the House and Senate know that the proposed policy changes to the Medicaid program will result in creating barriers to coverage and cause harm to some pediatric patients as well as patients who require long-term services and supports and older adults receiving nursing home care.
Congress has committed to achieving at least $1.5 trillion in savings over the next 10 years through the budget reconciliation process. Specifically, the House Energy and Commerce Committee recently passed legislation that would cut $715 billion from Medicaid, including implementing a work reporting requirement and new cost-sharing for certain beneficiairies. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has estimated that as many as 13.7 million people could become uninsured due to the policies as currently drafted. The Medicaid program currently covers over 72 million low-income Americans, including more than 37 million children and 7.2 million older adults.
It is time to take action and let Congress know that funding cuts or other policy changes to Medicaid would greatly reduce access to necessary services for children and older adults.
Remind Congress that these Medicaid changes will harm the patients who need it the most.
