Urge Congress to address drug shortages
  • Despite past congressional efforts to address the issue, OMSs continue to face frequent drug and supply shortages due to their unique skill set and practice model.
  • Shortages have affected medications such as anesthetics, analgesics, antibiotics, antiemetics, emergency drugs and saline.
  • When supplies are scarce or priced prohibitively high during shortages, OMSs are unable to maintain their usual level of care, which significantly impacts the healthcare system.
  • AAOMS supported several proposed legislative solutions in the 118th Congress. Two of those bills have been reintroduced in the 119th Congress. The RAPID Reserve Act (S 2062/HR 3955) has been reintroduced in both the House and Senate, while the MAPS Act (S 1784) has only been reintroduced in the Senate to date. A House bill is expected in the near future.
  • AAOMS is urging members of Congress to support these bills.
