Medicare’s current telehealth flexibilities, which allow physical therapists and physical therapist assistants to provide care virtually, will expire on January 30, 2026. Without Congressional action, patients will lose access to these vital services on January 31.
Telehealth has proven safe, effective, and widely used, improving access for rural and underserved communities and producing strong outcomes for patients with conditions such as PTSD, chronic pain, and stroke. These services help people stay healthy, independent, and working.
Congress must act quickly to extend current telehealth provisions before the deadline and also support H.R. 1614 to make PTs and PTAs permanent authorized providers of telehealth under Medicare.
