American Physical Therapy Association

Urge Your Representative to Cosponsor the Medicare Patient Choice Act
We need your help to contact Congress about a new bill: H.R. 4204, the Medicare Patient Choice Act. This bill would permit physical therapists to privately contract with Medicare beneficiaries, something PTs currently aren’t allowed to do.

Right now, physical therapists cannot “opt out” of Medicare to provide services directly to patients who want to pay out of pocket. This limits patient choice and can delay needed care due to complicated administrative requirements and payment rules.

H.R. 4204 would:

  • Allow physical therapists to sign a two-year agreement not to bill Medicare
  • Let them provide services directly to Medicare beneficiaries who give informed consent
  • Increase flexibility and reduce delays in care
  • Empower patients to choose the provider that’s right for them

This bill is bipartisan and was introduced in the House by Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-PA) and Rep. Don Davis (D-NC). Now we need members of Congress to cosponsor and support it.
Ask your representative to cosponsor H.R. 4204 and support increased access and provider flexibility for Medicare patients.

Your voice can make a difference and thank you for taking action!
