Wisconsin - Tell your Senate legislators to Support SB 203 - Banning Copay Accumulator Programs

Action Alert: Support SB 203 - "Cole's Act" - Protect Patient Access to Medications in Wisconsin!

Urge Your Wisconsin Senator to Vote YES on SB 203!

The Association of Women in Rheumatology (AWIR) needs your help! Senate Bill 203, also known as "Cole's Act," is critical legislation that will protect Wisconsin patients, particularly those with chronic conditions like rheumatic diseases, by banning copay accumulators. Use our letter template to contact your Senator and urge them to support SB 203!

What's at Stake?

Many patients rely on copay assistance programs to afford their medications. Copay accumulators are a harmful practice used by Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) and insurers that prevent this assistance from counting towards a patient's deductible or out-of-pocket maximum. This forces patients to pay significantly more for their medications, even when they have manufacturer assistance.

Why is SB 203 Important?

  • Protects Patients: SB 203 ensures that copay assistance counts toward patient cost-sharing, making medications more affordable.
  • No Impact on Premiums: Data shows that banning accumulators does not increase insurance premiums.
  • Addresses "Double Dipping": SB 203 prevents insurers and PBMs from profiting twice on the same medication.
  • Limited Scope: SB 203 applies only when no medically appropriate generic alternative exists, ensuring patients receive the medications they need.
