Action Alert: Support SB 360 – Lower Prescription Drug Costs for Kansas Patients

Urge Your Kansas Senator to Vote YES on SB 360!

The Association of Women in Rheumatology (AWIR) needs your help! Senate Bill 360, the Kansas Consumer Prescription Protection and Accountability Act, is critical legislation that would improve transparency in the prescription drug system and ensure patients directly benefit from prescription drug rebates. This bill is especially important for Kansans living with chronic and autoimmune conditions who rely on long-term, often costly medications.

AWIR urges you to contact your Kansas Senator and ask them to support SB 360.

What’s at Stake?

Patients with chronic conditions—such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and other autoimmune diseases—often require specialty or branded medications to manage their health and prevent disease progression. While Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) negotiate large rebates with drug manufacturers, those savings are rarely passed on to patients at the pharmacy counter.

Instead, patients are charged cost-sharing based on inflated list prices, leaving many unable to afford the medications their physicians prescribe. As a result, patients may delay treatment, ration doses, or abandon therapy altogether—leading to worse health outcomes and higher overall health care costs.

Why Is SB 360 Important?

  • Lowers Out-of-Pocket Costs: SB 360 requires PBMs to pass through 100% of negotiated rebates directly to patients, reducing what they pay at the pharmacy.
  • Improves Medication Adherence: When medications are affordable, patients are more likely to stay on prescribed therapies and avoid preventable complications.
  • Promotes Transparency and Accountability: The bill modernizes PBM oversight and aligns incentives with patient health rather than intermediary profit.
  • No Premium Increases: Other states that have enacted similar rebate pass-through policies have seen no increase in insurance premiums.
  • Supports Patients with Chronic Diseases: This policy directly benefits individuals who depend on long-term, life-sustaining medications.
