Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) and Congressman John Rutherford (FL-05), along with Senators Chris Coons and Eric Schmitt, introduced the bipartisan Supporting Blue Envelopes Programs Act (S.4089/H.R.6602) in both the House and Senate.
This bill would provide federal funding to Blue Envelope Programs throughout the nation. These programs provide individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and other disorders with identifiable envelopes that hold their necessary information for traffic stops or other interactions with law enforcement. Supporting and expanding this program helps ensure communication between these individuals and law enforcement is both positive and safe, rather than risky, confusing, or overwhelming.
The Autism Society and our network of affiliates prioritize community safety and inclusion for all individuals. This Program is a crucial step in promoting local-level solutions to an issue that affects Autistic individuals and their families.
Please use this Action Alert to urge your Member of Congress to support the bill.
