Let's get all kids Ready to Ride!
The Biking Instruction, Knowledge, and Education Act of 2025 (or BIKE Act) would support on-bike education programs in elementary and secondary schools. The act states that such education initiatives would be eligible for grant funding through Section 405 of the State Highway Safety Program. This specific program was created to fund education initiatives to help reduce deaths and injuries from traffic crashes.

In addition to the physical benefits cycling provides, exercise is known to help with memory retention as well as brain functionality, and these programs will not only help in such crucial areas of wellness, but emphasize the importance of safe bicycling habits. In-school bike education programs are known to lead to more confident and safe cyclists, enabling children to feel proficient in navigating roadways, understanding traffic laws, and the importance of safety precautions, like wearing a helmet. Further, a study from the Journal of Pediatric Psychology found that kids who participated in on-bike education programs retained more information than those who were simply educated through demonstrations, lectures, or videos. This study further concluded that on-bike learning is not only a low cost, but would be an effective component of safety training.

To support getting all kids access to on-bike, in-school education, join us in asking your representative to co-sponsor the BIKE Act.
