Support a Congressional Gold Medal for Marshall “Major” Taylor
Major Taylor was the first superstar of cycling. He was known as the fastest man on a bike and was a global phenomenon at a time when telegrams were the height of technology. Yet, because he was Black, Major Taylor faced prejudice and racism from the bicycling community, including the League of the time, as he pursued track records and world championships.

Today, his legacy is unknown by many.

Representatives Jonathan L. Jackson and Jim Baird are taking a step to change that. They have introduced a bill to award  Marshall “Major” Taylor with the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor Congress can bestow.

You can support this effort to honor Major Taylor by emailing your representative and asking them to co-sponsor H.R. 4083, a bill “in recognition of his significance to the nation as an athlete, trailblazer, role model, and equal rights advocate.”

Please join us in this much deserved and belated recognition of a trailblazing athlete and cyclist by contacting your member of Congress.
