Ask Your Legislator to Sign the House BRAIN Initiative Dear Colleague Letter
The Co-Chairs of the Congressional Neuroscience Caucus, Representatives Morgan Luttrell (R-TX) and Mike Thompson (D-CA), along with Representative Chris Deluzio (D-PA), are circulating a Dear Colleague sign-on letter to the House Appropriations Committee in support of the Brain Research Through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative.

As you know, research supported by the BRAIN Initiative holds tremendous promise for our understanding of the brain. Further investment in this pioneering research brings us closer to better treatments, prevention, and cures of brain diseases and conditions.

In FY 2025, the BRAIN Initiative received only $91 million in 21st Century Cures Act funding, a precipitous drop of $81 million. Since its peak in FY 2023, BRAIN has been cut in recent years by more than 52 percent, standing at a total of $321 million in FY 2025. These cuts threaten the continuation of critical brain research. As 21st Century Cures Act funding slightly increases and then sunsets after FY 2026, we must make our voices heard to ensure Congress prioritizes the BRAIN Initiative.

Again, FY 2026 threatens to be another challenging year, and Congress needs to hear from you. Please urge your representative to support promising brain research by signing the letter in support of the BRAIN Initiative today.
