AB 1836 builds upon this successful program by expanding protections to nonprofit-hosted events and organizations without permanent facilities. These improvements better reflect how ministries and nonprofit organizations carry out their missions today and help ensure that community gatherings, educational events, outreach programs, and religious activities can take place safely.
The California Catholic Conference has consistently supported the Nonprofit Security Grant Program. All twelve Catholic dioceses in California have participated in the program, using these resources to enhance safety and security for the more than 12 million Catholics throughout the state.
Protecting places where people gather to worship, learn, serve, and build community reflects the Church's commitment to the dignity of every person and the common good. Ensuring that nonprofit organizations have the resources necessary to safeguard those they serve promotes solidarity and helps create communities where all people can participate without fear of violence or intimidation.
