The bishops of California invite all parishes to join in celebrating World Marriage Day, held on the Sunday closest to St. Valentine’s Day. This special day honors the beauty of marriage and is a beautiful opportunity to radiate love!
Here's how you can celebrate:
1. Pray Together
- Use the Radiate Love prayer card.
- Include blessings for married and engaged couples during Mass.
- Incorporate prayers for married, engaged, and dating couples into the Prayers of the Faithful.
2. Encourage Closeness
- Inspire couples to go on a date! It could be a night out, a morning coffee together, or simply holding hands for five minutes while sharing their day.
- Share resources like the Date Night Kit from Communio or fun conversation starters.
3. Educate
- Make use of the K-12 catechetical resources in your parish or school during World Marriage Week February 9-15 to help build a strong foundation for the vocation of marriage.
4. Bonus Challenge: Love in Action
Share these resources with your parish ministries. To help you get started, we’ve provided a short Flocknote and bulletin message in the resources below. Feel free to use it as is or customize it to fit your parish’s needs. Be sure to share resources with your pastor or marriage ministry coordinator.
Why Celebrate Marriage?
Marriage Builds Society: Marriage is a sacrament, a cornerstone of society, providing stability for children and fulfilling our longing to love.
Marriage Benefits People: Married people and their children enjoy better health, finances, life satisfaction, and happiness!
Marriage Strengthens the Church: Married people are more likely to attend church and donate. Children from married homes are 78% more likely to attend church.
