Eighty percent of California youth ages 14 to 24 report experiencing climate distress. The good news: research shows that solutions-focused climate education helps channel that anxiety into empowering, career-ready action. That's why California State PTA is co-sponsoring SB 1048 (Becker) — the California Seal of Climate Literacy Act.
SB 1048 would create a voluntary diploma endorsement recognizing high school students who complete climate literacy coursework and hands-on community learning projects. It gives students the skills and recognition to understand — and act on — the challenges of a changing climate.
The bill goes before the Senate Education Committee on Wednesday, April 8 at 9 a.m. — send your letter before the hearing begins.
OPTIONAL: Add your personal story
The most effective letters include a personal story. Share why this matters to you — a wildfire or flood your community faced, heat or air quality concerns on your campus, what your child's school is or isn't teaching about climate, or your own hopes and worries for the future your kids will inherit. It's okay to leave this blank.
