Gleaning--or volunteers gathering food left in fields after harvesting for eating--is a way to address concerns about equity and the climate. But farmers are concerned about liability issues when gleaners come on their property. Clarifying what gleaning means for their insurance would help more farmers to allow gleaning on their farms. Food waste contributes about 6% of US GHG emissions and gleaning is one way to reduce food waste.
