Creating compost is one of the best ways  to reduce methane emissions (a toxic greenhouse gas) from landfills in addition to  creating economic development in a new green industry. This bill will develop a composting standard, establish money for related grants, which shall ensure that bringing organic waste from the community to the farm to produce compost results in a net reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.  It will also help our farm communities, returning valuable nutrients to the soil; saving money by reducing fertilizer costs and water use; and play a key role in stewardship of American farmland.

The COMPOST Act will provide funding for investing in compost businesses, and will financially support farmers who use compost on their land to improve soil health.
