Strengthen research on food waste through the Farm Bill
According to a Harvard report, food waste solutions can generate $73 billion in net financial benefit, recover the equivalent of 4 billion meals for food insecure individuals, and avoid 75 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

Congress should authorize $50 million a year in funding with the Research Title for the Specialty Crop Research Initiative, and direct USDA to prioritize projects targeting food waste reduction, including technology to reduce on-farm and transportation-related food loss.
