It has been more than 2 years since the International Energy Agency told us we can't continue fossil fuel development if we want to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and have any chance to meet the Paris Agreement Climate Goals, yet each year more development occurs far exceeding our total remaining carbon budget. This year at COP 28 we have a chance to initiate negotiations to phase out fossil fuel use. We should send the message now that we don't want any more fossil fuel development, period to help support these negotiations. Congress can and should send that message and if they are too divided to act, our congress members can speak out publicly supporting it.
