This Act would create a $1 billion fund for wildfire prevention and mitigation, connect communities with federal agencies to develop wildfire preparation plans, and provide funding for the Collaborative Landscape Restoration Program.
In 2022, wildfires burned more than 7 million acres of US forest, posing a serious threat to human life, human health, our environment, and our local economies.
Most of the Forest Service’s budget is currently focused towards fire suppression instead of proactive forest management. The Wildfire Resilient Communities Act is a step towards meaningfully creating a more resilient future for our forests, by focusing funds towards wildfire prevention and actively preparing communities for fire situations.
