Tell your Representative to fund tree planting in urban redlined communities suffering from extreme heat
One Washington Post analysis estimated that the average number of Americans experiencing at least three consecutive days of temperatures 100 degrees or higher each year will increase from 46 percent to 63 percent over the next 30 years. Because almost all formerly redlined urban areas experience higher land surface temperatures, these communities are the most likely to be at risk from these impacts. Redlined areas are home to many residents who struggle to afford proper healthcare, leading to higher proportions of premature deaths from these heatwaves. The SHADE Act would support tree planting in communities that need it most, furthering environmental justice.
