The conversation needs to shift to the impacts that are occurring, the impacts that are coming, what is being done about it, and what more we can do. One way to accomplish this is to establish regular briefings on the issue at both the national and state levels. The President and his administration can lead by structuring the conversation and ensuring that the public hears how all parts of the federal government are addressing climate change within their missions. State government administrations should be encouraged to do the same. Congress and state legislatures have a role, too, leading and facilitating Town Hall type discussions with their constituents regularly on what they are doing to enact the laws and policies we need to address climate change.
Regular briefings will help to encourage further discussions on climate change into the mainstream and reduce the likelihood that efforts to roll back current law and regulations will gain traction and instead help to shift the focus on doing more in these next few critically important years.
