We desperately need permitting reform in order to meet our climate goals. Currently, 78% of wind projects are stuck at the permitting phase, while nearly 2,000 GW of renewable energy is waiting to be approved for connection to the grid.
The sticking point, of course, is that passing a bipartisan permitting reform deal would likely require streamlining fossil fuel permitting as well. This is an unfortunate reality, but the need is too great. We cannot secure our renewable future without permitting reform of some kind.
We need a permitting reform deal that will remove bottlenecks to the growth of clean energy, without settling for "poison pills" like the approval of the Mountain Valley Pipeline.
