This legislation does not include private land and will not close roads to private
property.
The legislation will also:
- Create a National Recreation Area (NRA) on 29,382 acres to protect Monroe Reservoir water supply and promote dispersed recreation around the expanded Deam Wilderness.
-Incorporate lands from the Houston South Project, reducing or eliminating the destructive project.
- Address mountain biking and government concerns by developing trails and maintaining setbacks along trails, utility easements, and roads.
- Enhance quality of life by preserving the pristine condition of a significant wilderness area, offering opportunities for various recreational activities.
- Recognize the importance of mature forests for clean water, vital to Bloomington’s economy.
- Establish a Federal Advisory Committee to collaborate on NRA management.
- Increase Monroe Reservoir's capacity to handle precipitation and mitigate flood risks.
- Implement the vision of President Biden’s Executive Orders 14008 and 14072 as well as
- Align with President Biden’s Executive Orders and Project 46 to combat climate change by allowing old-growth hardwood forest regeneration.
- Provide essential habitat for rare and endangered species, aiding the survival of species like the cerulean warbler and Indiana bats.
