Climate Action Now

Tell your Members of Congress we need our forests for natural carbon sequestration not timber!
The US has millions of acres of forest land.  Most of it is "managed" by the US Forest Service as a part of the USDA.  Their stated mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the nation's forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations, yet "productivity" has far too often meant cutting for timber.

At this point, we can't afford to cut down any more of our forests, especially those that are actively drawing down CO2, at least until we are well on our way back to climate safe levels of CO2 in the atmosphere.  We need Congress to make clear that the mission of the US Forest Service is no longer to supply timber but to restore our forests and to work to increase their ability to pull yet more CO2 out of our air.
