While a number of companies already have grievance systems in place, very few allow non-financial stakeholders to voice their complaints. Current mechanisms frequently exclude the farmers who make cocoa production possible. These important groups of stakeholders are often the most knowledgeable about improvements that can be made along the cocoa supply chain and the necessary changes to support better conditions for cocoa farmers.

Requiring chocolate companies to adopt publicly accessible grievance redress mechanisms is a straightforward way to improve due diligence systems and mitigate supply chain risk.
