Tell Congress to demand more clean energy on public lands!
On March 14, 2025, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management unexpectedly approved construction of a new power line on U.S. public lands that will connect the planned 117 MW Sapphire Solar project (to be built on private lands) to the California grid. Notably, this power line approval is the first time that the current presidential administration has approved any renewable energy project on public lands!
This is a welcome early crack in the wall of self-sabotaging ignorance that the current executive branch has fabricated by opposing the fast-growing U.S. clean energy sector.
Clean energy that accounted for over 90% of new electricity-generating capacity built across America in 2024, and in 2025 the U.S. EIA forecast that solar will continue to provide most new electricity-generating capacity built in America through 2026.
Hopefully, this move by the BLM indicates a dawning realization that blocking clean energy in the U.S. would lead to not much new power coming online at all.
Amid the ongoing chaos in the U.S. executive branch, several cases have emerged where members of Congress were able to lobby for some much-needed stability for specific projects. A Senator from Montana was reportedly able to ensure the disbursement of a loan for a sustainable aviation fuel refinery, while a Congressman from Oklahoma was reportedly able to prevent the senseless destruction of the NOAA Radar Operations Center. In these turbulent times, it is vital for Congressional leaders to stand up, oppose chaotic attacks on American industry and civil service, and fight for energy abundance and the rule of law.
