Tell Congress to unleash the global renewables revolution in America!

Tell Congress to unleash the global renewables revolution in America!

It is clearer by the day that humanity is embarking on a historic exponential surge in abundant clean energy! New data shows that the first half of 2025 was a turning point.

Growth in wind and solar generation (not capacity!) together amounted to 109% of global electricity demand growth in the first half of 2025, essentially providing all new electricity then cutting into fossil fuel incumbents.

Solar alone met 83% of global electricity demand growth.

China added more new solar & wind than the rest of Earth combined, and its fossil fuel generation dropped by 2%.

India also decreased its fossil use, while the U.S. saw a slight increase.

Impressively, world coal generation fell by 0.6%, as renewables overtook coal as humanity’s leading energy source. That’s not a future projection — that just happened, in the first half of 2025.

The first six months of 2025 saw record-high investment in renewable energy worldwide, 10% higher worldwide than in the first half of 2024. That’s despite a decline in clean energy funding in the U.S. this year, as the EU, India, and China keep progressing.

Even though the U.S. is falling behind much of the rest of the world on clean energy due to political chaos, the economics of clean energy are unbeatable. Fossil fuels are now so expensive, and solar panels and batteries so cheap, that coal and gas are uncompetitive despite government giveaways. In January through July 2025, 21.5 GW (21,500 MW) of new electricity-generating capacity was built across America. 15.7 GW of that (~73%) was new solar capacity, followed by 3.2 GW of new wind and 2.2 GW of fossil gas. 46 new solar farms opened across the USA in July 2025 alone.

Merrimack Station in New Hampshire, the last coal plant in the six-state region of New England, closed in September 2025, three years ahead of schedule, despite increasingly desperate White House efforts to subsidize coal plants to stay open. Keeping it running in an increasingly solarized market was simply uneconomical.

Congressional leaders should face America towards the future and forcibly cut off the executive-branch giveaways to the rotting corpse of the coal industry in upcoming budget talks. Furthermore, Congress should enact supportive regulatory and permitting structures to accelerate a rapid build-out of solar and battery storage — the fast-growing, market-preferred, clean, cheap, and reliable source for U.S. energy!
