Urge your federal representatives to advocate for emergency funding for Hurricane Melissa recovery
In the past, the U.S. Agency for International Development would take the lead on responding to disasters like Melissa, preparing for hurricane season months in advance, pre-positioning supplies and resources, and coordinating with officials in Jamaica and neighboring islands. With the agency dismantled, that advance planning didn’t happen—and while the U.S. is already sending relief workers, there is a lot more we can and should do to fill the gaps.
