Beavers are among nature’s most effective ecosystem engineers, building ponds and wetlands that reduce flooding, enhance water quality, support biodiversity, and store carbon. Unfortunately, those same behaviors can damage roads, culverts, and private property, leading many communities to rely on costly, counterproductive, and lethal removal strategies. The DAMS for Beavers Act would create a grant program to support nonlethal mitigation efforts that ultimately save taxpayers money, improve outcomes for communities and wildlife, and allow beavers to continue their wetland restoration work.
