Encourage your federal representatives to bolster tribal access to the Land and Water Conservation Fund
While the LWCF has supported more than 45,000 projects since 1965, very little of that funding has gone to tribal nations, who have no option but to work through state governments if they want to access LWCF funding. Proposing an amendment to explicitly include funding for Indigenous tribes would be an important step forward, empowering tribal governments to work directly with federal agencies, be the direct recipients of LWCF funding, and further their conservation goals. They should also be able to use any funds they receive to protect and preserve cultural lands, rather than being required to open them up for public recreation.
