While the connection between climate change and the polar vortex is becoming increasingly clear, scientists are still working to understand how global warming impacts the jet stream, and by extension, the movement of weather systems. Many of these scientists rely on federal funding to carry out this critical research, which has the potential to greatly bolster our forecasting capabilities and ensure we are better prepared for severe weather events.
