In addition to moving Forest Service headquarters to Salt Lake City, the administration is planning to replace the agency's regional offices with 15 state-led ones, shut down over 50 place-based research facilities across the country, and centralize research in Colorado. These drastic changes are all but guaranteed to undermine our national strategy, give states and industry more influence over Forest Service operations, and cost us critical insights into localized environmental impacts. We are also sure to lose some of the Forest Service’s most experienced career staff and their institutional knowledge.
