Earlier this year, Searchlight Institute published “Seizing the Data Center Buildout for Grid Modernization,” which explores how we can best use the trillions of dollars that are projected to be funneled into data center construction. The think tank’s primary proposal is the creation of the American Grid Infrastructure Fund, which hyperscalers would have the option of paying into to access benefits like accelerated connection to the grid. The revenue this generates would be put toward fixing our aging grid, bolstering transmission capacity, and ultimately ensuring long-term power reliability.
