The Hospital-Medical Liability Act (HMLA) of Nebraska is a landmark law which passed through the Unicameral and ushered in an era of medical liability insurance stability that endures today. Copic is acutely aware of the importance that a stable tort environment has in creating access to health care providers.
Copic believes, however, that access to quality care is critical. Copic supports legislation that fosters an environment where health care providers are encouraged to review their peers, report adverse outcomes or near misses and learn from them in order to educate others. Nebraska’s Health Care Quality Improvement Act (HCQIA) allows for such an environment by providing a safe space for those reviews and learning.
Copic works in collaboration with its partners to maintain these two laws, among others, in order to improve access to safe, quality health care delivery.
