We urgently need your help to echo our message to the LA Board of Supervisors today!
The Los Angeles Board of Supervisors is set to vote Tuesday, May 5th, on unwarranted changes to local labor enforcement laws that will unfairly target employers, undermine employee privacy, and erode due process.
The motion proposes a major expansion of the County’s wage enforcement framework, and threatens your food facility permit.
While intended to address “wage theft”, the proposal would shift enforcement from the current complaint-based system to a more open-ended model—allowing investigations without a formal complaint and targeting industries like restaurants for increased scrutiny.
Key elements of the proposal include:
If adopted, this approach would increase arbitrary enforcement activity, raise financial exposure, and introduce new reputational considerations for operators—even those making good-faith compliance efforts. Labor enforcement should focus on proven violations, not creating open-ended fishing expeditions. Public shaming and surprise audits- of alleged violations- are punitive, not productive or compliance driven.
Please take a quick moment to use the built-in tool to send a pre-written message to your LA County Supervisor urging them to OPPOSE these overreaching proposals.
Thank you,
