The CRA
Help Resist Misguided Restaurant Alcohol Sale Restrictions!
Greetings Restaurant Friends,

We’re reaching out to request your help in opposing state legislation that ignores your own best practices regarding alcohol sales and your team members' mandatory and extensive Responsible Beverage Service Training.

AB 1605 (Ransom) would require ID checks for every single alcohol transaction.

While intended to punish repeat DUI offenders, the bill raises serious implementation and operational concerns and unjustifiably levies enforcement mandates on restaurants and their team members.
AB 1605 would do the following:
- Require every patron to have their ID checked, regardless of appearance or prior service/ID check.
- Put a “NO ALCOHOL SALES” tag on certain Driver’s Licenses of repeat DUI offenders and require restaurants to enforce that ban.
- Leave restaurants open to liability when someone with that CA license demarcation uses another form of legally acceptable identification (like a Passport) that lacks the “NO ALCOHOL SALES” demarcation to obtain alcohol on premise.

California restaurant employees are among the best-trained front-line workers to responsibly and safely serve the public alcoholic beverages.
The traps in AB 1605 should be for repeat DUI offenders, not for restaurants!

Please take a quick minute and use the tool attached to let your State Assembly Member know that you are opposed to AB 1605 (Ransom).

Thank you,
The CRA Government Affairs Team
